Sami - the main door

The only port with the scheduled car ferry (20-30 minutes, from ~$6) plus the featured day cruise (4.5/5, $75). Forty-five minutes from the airport, thirty from Argostoli, with a real harborfront town around it. If you’re basing anywhere central and driving yourself, Sami is the answer to almost everything.

Agia Effimia - the northern neighbor

Ten minutes past Sami, prettier harbor, its own Ithaca cruise (4.3/5 across 56 bookings) that works Gidaki and Kioni into the loop. If your rooms overlook this bay, there is no reason to drive past your own boat.

Poros - the southern door

An hour southeast of Argostoli, with the longer alternative ferry crossing (~50 minutes) and its own day cruise (4.5/5 across 38). The natural pick for stays around Skala’s beach strip with a car - without one, read on.

No car? The pickup formats
